My favorite drawing media
Pencil
For my drawings I work with Faber-Castell pencils in the strengths H2 to B8 and also vary the pressure I exert on the paper when drawing. Depth effects and light reflections in the coat are thus created by different pencil shades. The drawings that are drawn in pencil have the highest level of detail. For white hairs in the fur, I notch the fur texture into the paper with a blank ink pen before I start drawing with pencils. When hatching with a soft pencil, these areas remain white.
Aquarel
Aquarels are valuable and bright watercolors. From a few basic colors all color variations can be mixed. It takes time and patience to find the right color nuances, but this is part of the game. With especially fine brushes, each hair gets the right structure, direction and length.
Pastel
A technique that immediately excited me. The pencils have properties comparable to chalk, i.e. a very soft consistency that can be rubbed wonderfully with the finger and that makes the fur appear soft and realistic. Individual lines blur into a uniform coat. The paper is very rough compared to others. I prefer colored backgrounds for pastel drawings.
